Behind the Door with the Christmas Wreath
In every town, city, and zip code, there are people impacted by sexual and domestic violence. Gender-based violence does not discriminate, and while it impacts everyone differently, the impacts are felt, not only by the individual but throughout the community.
A safer community is a more connected community, so just by taking time to reach out and connect to those around us, we are helping to increase the safety of our friends, families, and neighbors. We can do that this holiday season. We can do that, together, all year long.
We All (Still) Have a Role to Play
What enables us to heal from trauma is having one person in our lives we can turn to and receive a believing supportive response. All of us deserve to have that, and all of us can offer it to someone else. We all have a role to play to foster healing and transformation.
Shifting from ‘should’ to ‘could’ can make all the difference
It's hard to know what to do and what to say when someone we care about shares an experience of sexual or domestic violence.
How we offer support can play the biggest role in whether someone feels supported by us. This blog explores how simply shifting our language from giving advice (you should) to providing options (you could) can impact our interactions with survivors.
